Drive-Thru to Receive Holy Communion

Dear Parishioners,

Starting Sunday, December 6, 2020, at our Lady of Fatima we will be making Holy Communion available to you after the live-stream masses. This Sunday we invite you to come to church immediately after participating in a live-streamed Mass at home. Holy Communion will be from 11:00 am to 11:15 am and from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.

Please remain in your cars and follow the instruction below:

  • Stay in the car
  • Wear a face mask
  • Sanitize your hands
  • Roll down your window when you get to the station for Holy Communion. Extend your arm toward the priest or the Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and prepare to receive the Holy Eucharist in your hand. Pull your mask down and consume the Host before driving off.

For further information please see the attached letter from Archbishop Michael Miller.

Sincerely,

Fr Rosemond

Distribution of Holy Communion Outside of Mass

Reverend and dear Father:

If you are able to do so, below are some suggestions on how to make Holy Communion available for the faithful during the time of this pandemic, when Mass and other services with a congregation cannot be held.

Please keep in mind it is imperative that the guidelines given by the Provincial Health Authorities and the Archdiocese be strictly observed, especially the wearing of masks, keeping physical distance and thorough sanitizing. Any gatherings or the appearance of such gatherings of large groups of people must be avoided.

Participation in a live-streamed Mass before receiving Holy Communion is the best preparation for the Sacrament and is very strongly encouraged.

A prayer card for thanksgiving after Holy Communion may be given to the communicants.

Distributing Holy Communion in Cars

Invite parishioners to come to the church by car immediately after participating in a live-streamed Mass at home. They are to follow these instructions:

  • Follow the direction of the ushers who will be monitoring the flow and show you where to go
  • Stay in the car
  • Wear a face mask
  • Sanitize your hands
  • Roll down your window when you get to the station for Holy Communion. Extend your arm toward the priest or EMHC and prepare to receive the Holy Eucharist in your hand. Pull your mask down and consume the Host before driving off.
  • Feel free to drive to a parking spot for a time of thanksgiving.

Distributing Holy Communion in the Church

If the church facility does not lend itself to giving Holy Communion in the car, then arrangements can be made to have parishioners come into the church or hall, after participating in a live-streamed Mass, as follows:

  • A few at a time
  • Sign in for the purpose of contact tracing
  • Sanitize their hands
  • Receive Holy Communion
  • Exit through another door, without remaining in the church.

Thank you very much for the zealous exercise of your priestly ministry at this trying time.

Fraternally yours in Christ,

+ J. Michael Miller, CSB
Archbishop of Vancouver
